Grave of Fireflies 25th Anniversary

Grave of the Fireflies’ 25th Anniversary

American distributor GKids have announced the acquisition of the North American rights to Isao Takahata’s Grave of the Fireflies. The film itself is almost 25 years old, older than most people watching anime today. In response to this milestone, GKids are planned to release the film in American theatres as a 25th Anniversary release.

GkKids has also added this film to its list of the Studio Ghibli distribution tour around North America (other movies include My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away).

In any case, if you haven’t seen this acclaimed 1988 film, the 25th anniversary release will be ideal. The film itself is of a war tragedy theme, set during the final months of World War II where Japan is bombarded with American planes. The film provides anti-war messages and the horrors seen throughout the war. It is a touching story between a brother and little sister trying to survive the brutal war in Japan.
