Lucky Star Spin-Off Manga Gets Anime Adaptation

Lucky Star Spin-Off Manga Gets Anime Adaptation

A few weeks ago there was a teaser for something Lucky Star related, and it would be revealed at a shrine prominently featured in the Lucky Star anime, Washinomiya Shrine. With the train of thought that a second season of the anime was appearing, it was quelled today as the wooden ema was placed- according to the prophecy. The ema has announced that there will be an anime adaptation of Miyakawa-ke no K?fuku (The Miyakawa Family’s Hunger), a spin-off manga of Lucky Star by Kagami Yoshimizu.

The spin-off is still set in the Lucky Star world but focuses on two minor characters of the parent manga, Hinata Miyakawa and her little sister Hikage Miyakawa. It follows both their lives at home and lives at elementary school in a fashion very similar to Lucky Star. The bigger sister is constantly buying dojinshi which leaves them with very little money for food, which causes Hikage to be hungry most of the time- hence the manga’s title.
The manga itself was launched in 2008 by Kagami Yoshimizu with Kadokawa Shoten publishing the first compiled book volume in June. The ema also lists director Yutaka Yamamoto (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star), but does not state his involvement on the project. There is also no mention of any involvement from Kyoto Animation. The anime is expected to air sometime in 2013 and any cameo from the lovable blue-haired Otaku is more than likely.
