Monster Hunter 4 Receives Fairy Tail Content

Hiro Mashima, the creator and of the popular manga series RAVE Master and Fairy Tail, has been revealed to be designing a set of armour and weapons for Capcom’s Monster Hunter 4. The male and female armour set are titled the Zodias armour set and resembles much of Mashima’s work, with many gold runes running across the armour itself. The weapons are called the Explosive Flaming Red Edge, a pair of Dual Blades that resemble the Fairy Tail insignia when they are sheathed and have a rainbow glow when unsheathed.

Hiro Mashima is also the author of the manga adaptation of the Monster Hunter series titled Monster Hunter Orage. Here is a synopsis of the manga from MAL:

It is a world full of monsters and adventurers who hunt them. They are called Monster Hunters. The plot revolves around a young Monster Hunter, Shiki. When Shiki was a young boy, he was taken as an apprentice to a Monster Hunter named Gurelli, but it was not too long after that Gurelli was killed by a gunpowder accident. After a few years, he comes back to Akamaaya Town (where his master resided) to join the guild there. In that guild, he meets a girl called Irie and after a series of events, he finds that she is the daughter of his master. From this point onwards, they form a party to find the legendary Miogaruna, which was Gurelli’s life-long ambition.

In addition to the Fairy Tail collaboration, the recent Nintendo Direct has revealed two Nintendo collaborations with the monster slaying game. Both Nintendo and Capcom have revealed that Monster Hunter 4 will have content from the Mario and The Legend of Zeldafranchises. Players can customise their feline companions, called Felyne, to look like Mario and Luigi. While this may be cool, the felynes look kind of off in those costumes. From The Legend of Zelda, players will be able to dress up as the hero of time using the Master Sword and Hylian Shield as the shield and sword combination, and Link’s bow and arrows as the game’s bow class.

Monster Hunter 4 is the fourth main instalment and eleventh game in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series. Releasing for the Nintendo 3DS, this will be the second game on the handheld full of monster slaying and resource gathering. The Monster Hunter series is insanely popular in Japan, selling over 27 million copies since the series’ debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. The game revolves around the goal of hunting various monsters and using their organs as materials for items and equipment.

Monster Hunter 4 will be releasing on the Nintendo 3DS on September 14th in Japan, while a release date outside of Japan has not been announced yet. The game will be available for download online via the eShop and will be sold as a physical copy through Japan.
