Persona 4 Arena Update Revealed: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold

The Persona 4 series has gotten very popular in the last few years, and has just recently begun showing on TV as an anime adaptation in 2011 (ignoring Persona Trinity Souls since it’s not an adaptation). And last year itself was a big year with two new releases in the series: Persona 4: Golden, a re-release of the game on the PlayStation Vita with additional content, and Persona 4 Arena, a 2D fighter. And later this year, the update to the fighting game by Arc System Works will be out, and is unwieldy titled Persona 4 The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold.

Persona 4 The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold is an arcade update to the original 2012 fighting game by Arc System Works that has been announced to release in Winter this year. The game will include the entire base game and all the characters present, which contains all the major Persona 4 characters and few Person 3 characters. The game released in Arcades in March last year and on consoles in July. So there could be a console port of the newly announced hype titled game. It is also set after Persona 4 Arena, which has a canon story set after the events of Persona 4 and before the secret ending of Persona 4 Golden for the PlayStation Vita.

The new game will include two new characters from Persona 3: Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori. You can see some screens of the characters below.

There are some additional images of the game that show the general upgrades to the game’s visual, and another character, Sho Minazuki. Sho is a new character to the Persona franchise and his allegiance is unknown thus far.

There is also a brand new trailer for the game which can be seen below, which contains gameplay footage and additional more awesome and hype.

Persona 4 first released on the PlayStation 2 in 2008, part of the Persona series in Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei franchise. The game received critical acclaim and strong sales, quite unusual since the game released very late into the consoles life cycle (with the PlayStation 3 releasing 2 years earlier). Since then the game has spawned many adaptations and merchandises. To date, there are three manga adaptations, a light novel adaptation, and oddly enough a live stage production. An anime adaptation for the game, titled Persona 4: The Animation aired in late 2011 and garnered lots of attention. Persona 4 Golden, an enhanced port of the original game released last year on the PlayStation Vita and included a few new features and story elements, including a new secret ending.Persona 4 Arena also released last year with Arc System Works, who develop the Blazblue and Guilty Gear series, and has surpassed expectations.

Persona 4 The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold will officially launch around Japan on arcades later this year, with no mentions of an international release or console port. But with a name that hype, why wouldn’t it?
