2013 Anime Mirai Short Death Billiards Gets TV Adaptation for 2015 as Death Parade

Television network NTV has just recently announced that a full TV anime series adaptation of the 2013 short Death Billiards is currently in production. The series itself will be titled Death Parade and will be airing next year.

The new series will be based on Yuzuru Tachikawa’s original anime short that aired in February 2013 as part of the 2013 Anime Mirai project. The staff of short will return for Death Parade and includes:

  • Director, Script Writer, Storyboarder and Creator: Yuzuru Tachikawa (Arata-naru Sekai, Chi’s Sweet Home: Atarashii Ouchi Assistant Director)
  • Character Designer and Animator Director: Shinichii Kurita (Bleach the Movie 4: Hell Verse and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A’s Key Animator)
  • Animation Studio: Madhouse (Death Note, No Game No Life)

The cast of the anime will also return to voice their respective characters in the full series:

  • Tomoaki Maeno (Naotsugu from Log Horizon) returns as the Bartender
  • Asami Seto (Chihaya Ayase in Chihayafuru) is back as Onna
  • Yuuichi Nakamura (Kyousuke Kousaka in Oreimo) voices Otoko
  • Jun Hazumi (Keruyan in Seton Doubutsuki: Kuma no Ko Jacky) will be voicing Roujin

Death Billiards is an original anime short that released in January 2013 during that year’s Anime Mirai project and was helmed by Yuzuru Tachikawa and produced by Madhouse. The project itself is funded by the Japanese Government’s Agency for Cultural Affairs to train new and upcoming animators.

Here is a synopsis of the original Death Billiards:

An old and a young man find themselves in a mysterious bar where they have to play a game of billiard. The bet: their lives.

Death Parade will be airing sometime in 2015. Further information about the series will release at a later date.
