Fate-stay night Unlimited Blade Works & Fate-kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya Fight Scene Comparisons

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works & Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya Fight Scene Comparisons

One of this season’s anticipated and much watched anime is ufotable’s Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. The studio is well known for producing high quality animation across the board on all their series, especially their adaptations of Type-Moon’s Fate series. On the flipside, is Silver Link’s 2013 anime adaptation of Hiroshi Hiroyama’s Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya, a spin-off manga of the Fate/stay night Visual Novel. And we will be comparing the two series in the best way possible, their fighting scenes.

Now this may be an odd comparison, since the two series are quite the opposite in their themes and main style of presentation (with one focusing on little girls) but the comparisons are actually very valid. We have on the left, gifs from some fighting scenes of ufotable’s Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, and on the right are some fight scene gifs from Silver Link’s Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya.

Fate/stay night is a visual novel released by Type-Moon for the PC in 2004, and is the first in their Fate series. The visual novel was very successful and claimed the title of highest selling visual novel in that year. 2006 saw two adaptations of the game, a manga by Datto Nishiwaki and an anime series by Studio Deen. Additionally in that year, a light novel series titled Fate/Zero was written by Gen Urobuchi. It is a prequel to the visual novels, set 10 years prior. An anime and manga adaptation of Fate/Zero were created, with the manga written by Urobuchi himself in 2011 and the anime being animated by ufotable. A second season of Fate/Zero was also produced.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya is a spin off manga series from Type-Moon’s Fate/stay night franchise by Hiroshi Hiroyama. The manga follows Illyasviel von Einzbern in an alternate universe where she is a magical girl. The manga original released in 2007 in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comp Ace magazine. A sequel series Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei! released in 2009 and another titled Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3wei! released in 2012. The anime adaptation of the first manga series aired in June last year and a second series this season, both of which were produced by Silver Link.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works is currently airing this Fall/Autumn 2014 anime season on Thursdays at midnight (effectively Friday). A third season of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya, titled Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!, was previously announced and will air next year.
