New Code Geass Anime Announced – Lelouch of the Resurrection

At today’s 10th anniversary event of the Code Geass anime, it was announced that a brand new anime titled Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection is in production. Yes, it was confirmed that Lelouch will indeed star in the new sequel anime.

The new anime will be a sequel, set years after Zero Requiem (the final events of the anime’s second season). Gorou Taniguchi, the director of the previous anime, have also confirmed that Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection will be a sequel. Details about the format of the new anime have yet to be revealed.

In addition, there will also be 3 compilation films of previous Code Geass anime. The films are set to release in January 2017 and will contain new audio.

The event, Anniversary of a Miracle – Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion), celebrated the anime’s 10th anniversary. The main cast members of the anime attended the event:

  • Jun Fukuyama (Shinra Kishitani in Durarara!!), who voiced Lelouch Lamperouge
  • Takahiro Sakurai (Misaki Takahashi from Junjou Romantica), who voices Suzaku Kururugi
  • Yukana (Cecilia Alcott in IS: Infinite Stratos), who voiced C.C.
  • Ami Koshimizu (Ryuuko Matoi in Kill la Kill), who voices Kallen Stadtfeld
  • Ken Narita (Reborn in Katekyo Hitman Reborn!), who voices Jeremiah Gottwald

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) is an anime series created by animation studio Sunrise (Gundam, Love Live! School Idol Project) and manga creators CLAMP (xxxHolic, Cardcaptor Sakura). The series was directed by Gorou Taniguchi (Planetes, Junketsu no Maria) and began in October, 2006, running for a total of 25 episodes. The anime was followed by a second season in 2008. Both seasons of the anime received critical acclaim and widespread popularity. Following the anime’s broadcast, a series of OVAs, manga and Light novels were produced. In 2012 an anime film movie series titled (Code Geass: Boukoku no AkitoCode Geass: Akito the Exiled was produced, set between the two seasons of the anime. The films were directed by Kazuki Akane (Tetsuwan Birdy Decode: The Cipher, Tenku no Escaflowne).

In the year 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia is establishing itself as a dominant military nation, starting with the conquest of Japan. Renamed to Area 11 after its swift defeat, Japan has seen significant resistance against these tyrants in an attempt to regain independence.

Lelouch Lamperouge, exiled prince of Britannia, unfortunately finds himself caught in a crossfire between the two nations’ armed forces. He is able to escape, however, thanks to the timely appearance of a mysterious girl named C.C., who bestows upon him Geass, the “Power of Kings.” Realizing the vast potential of his newfound “power of absolute obedience,” Lelouch embarks upon a perilous journey as the masked vigilante known as Zero, leading a merciless onslaught against Britannia in order to get revenge once and for all.

A brand new Code Geass anime is in production under Lelouch of the Resurrection. A 3 part compilation film of the anime will be releasing in Japan in January 2017. Further details about the new anime will be revealed soon.
