To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Isuna Hasekura and Juu Ayakura’s Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) light novel series, Dengeki Bunko Magazine has announced that a sequel helmed by Hasekura will begin the magazine’s upcoming 49th issue.
The new sequel series will be published in the light novel magazine starting in the April 9th issue of Dengeki Bunko Magazine. There will be an official website for the anniversary that will launch on the 10th. More details will be revealed then.
Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) is a romantic light novel series about economics written by Isuna Hasekura with illustrations from Juu Ayakura. The series began in 2006 and ended in 2011 for a total of 17 volumes, being published under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint. Over 3.5 million copies of the series is in circulation around Japan as of late 2009. The series first received a manga adaptation in 2007 from Keito Koume in Dengeki Maoh, currently ongoing with 12 volumes. An anime adaptation by Imagin (Strawberry Panic!, Love Love?) was produced in 2008 with a second season from Brain’s Base (Durarara!!, Baccano!) in 2009 – both directed by Takeo Takahashi (Yosuga no Sora, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha). An OVA and two games were also produced.
Here is the synopsis of the anime from MAL:
Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. Yet as years go by and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who stylizes herself as the “Wise Wolf of Yoitsu,” has been reduced to a mere folk tale. When a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops at Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he eventually takes her to her northern home of Yoitsu. The savvy trader recognizes Holo’s unusual ability to evaluate a person’s character and accepts her proposition. Now in the possession of both sharp business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence inches closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly morphing into something unexpected.
The Spice and Wolf sequel novel series will begin in an upcoming issue of Dengeki Bunko Magazine for the series’ 10th anniversary, releasing on April 9th. Further details will be revealed on February 10th.
