Re: Zero’s Rem Had a Limited Edition Cake for Her Birthday

Unfortunately we are a few days late, but Rem from Tappei Nagatsuki and Shintarou Otsuka’s Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Life in a Different World from Zero) celebrated her birthday last week on February 2nd. In celebration for the popular character’s birthday, a special cake was made available for fans to purchase.

The Ichiban Cafe have teamed up with Japanese restaurant chain Italian Tomato to produce a limited edition cake to celebrate the birthday of Rem. The cake itself went for ¥4,000 (~ US$35.55) and is 12cm in diameter. The purchase also comes with a special matt, a decorative plate, and two coasters. All of the products are of course centered around the blue hair maid.

Japanese figure manufacturer FigureX recently revealed a 1/1 scale figure of Rem. Standing at 149cm tall the statue will retail for ¥1,598,400. which converts to approximately US$13,795. In addition to its absurdly high cost, only 30 statues are being sold.

In addition to being a life sized rendition of the maid, the product is made from a special PLA plastic that is safe and not harmful to the environment. The material is used to meticulously shape her body via a 3D scan, being able to sculpt her finer details with hair, muscle tone, center of gravity, wrinkles and clothes. One last caveat is that the statute speaks via a speaker built into the base, voiced by Inori Minase (Chino Kafuu in Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?).

If the $13,000 figure is not enough, a double sided Dakimakura cover of Rem is also avaliable. At a full sized cover at 1600mm × 500mm, the cover is retailing for ¥12,000 (~ US$113.00) and you can order it on the official Kadokawa shop.
