GTA V Launching on September 19th

Rather braking and somewhat bad news for gamers, as the Rockstar blog has revealed that their next big game, Grand Theft Auto V, has been delayed and will release on September 17 this year. While a release date has finally been confirmed, it is 4 months later than what Rockstar has planned for, and the response has been largely negative.

You can check out the official blog here, but this is the post:

Dear all,

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

Yours,
The GTA Team

Grand Theft Auto V is the long awaited sequel in the long running series that has been iconic since the release of GTA III back in 2001 on the PlayStation 2. Since then there have multiple releases that fit the same formula, and has even earned many ‘GTA Clones’ over the years. The GTA series is popular for featuring a large open world that allows player to achieve almost anything within the game, many of which are violent.

The series has had some negativity in the press, with some politicians condemning the game’s violence.GTA V is set in Los Santos, one city that appeared in GTA San Andreas, and follows three different protagonists as they rise up to multiple challenges to obtain the fabled ‘almighty dollar.’ The game features a large beautiful world that is both detailed and sprawling with life. Compared to GTA IV, the game is much more bright and less serious, opting back to the previous games’ silliness and over the top nonsense.

Regardless, GTA V will launch on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17th later this year. The release date for the PC has not been announced yet.
