New Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Season 2 Information & Images

Kyoto Animation has released lots of new information regarding the second season of their 2012 anime Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!, which is scheduled to release in January next year. Some of the information comes from the screening of the anime’s film, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Rikka Takanashi’s Revision, a recap of the series’ first season from the standpoint of heroine Rikka Takanashi. More recent, is the announcement of the second season’s title, which will be Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren.The new name may have been used rather than ‘season 2′ to reduce confusion since the series’ is commonly referred to as Chuu2, and adding an additional 2 to the name is not pleasant.

In regards to what was shown in the film, a new character was revealed in a small teaser trailer. The new character is Satone Shichimiya. The character also appears the light novel’s second series, which is what the anime is loosely adapted from. In regards to her character, she is also a sufferer from ‘Chuunibyou’ or delusions, which was a focal point around the series. She also has strong ties to the protagonist of the series, Yuuta Togashi. Also, bear in mind that Satone was not mentioned or seen throughout the first season of the anime.

At the end of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Rikka Takanashi’s Revision a new clip was shown, leading up to Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren. The new clip showcases an unusual outcome and is the synopsis of the second season:

Due to various events, Yuuta and Rikka are living together. This secret co-habitation is so exciting for the two lovebirds! Or so it should be…

Is having a chuuni girlfriend too high of a hurdle for Yuuta, who never even went out with a normal girl?! Yuuta worries about how to advance his relationship with Rikka. And then everyone else, Nibutani, Kumin, and Dekomori, have powered up by advancing a grade. Furthermore, the cause of his chuunibyou outburst in middle school, the girl who calls herself Sophia Ring Saturn the 7th, Satone Shichimiya appears…

This is the long-awaited second season of the adolescent romantic comedy revolving around chuunibyou that makes you laugh and cry.

Additionally, a magazine image showcases what the other main characters will appear in the upcoming season. As seen below, characters Sanae Dekomori and Shinka Nibutani have a brand new look, especially with Shinka who has changed her hair colour…

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is an anime adaptation of the light novel series of the same name by Kyoto Animation. The light novels are by author Torako and are illustrated by Nozomi Ousaka. The novels entered the Kyoto Animation Awards in 2010 and received an honourable mention award. The light novel was eventually published by Kyoto Animation in June 2011 with an anime adaptation of the series in October last year. And just recently the series has received a film adaptation which is a recap of the series but from protagonist Rikka Takanashi’s perspective. Whilst being an adaptation, the series barley shares the same plot of the light novels with the anime having its own story and characters.

Here is a synopsis of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! from MAL:

Yuuta Togashi suffered from chuunibyou while he was in middle school. When he graduated, he put that dark history behind him and forgot about it… or he was supposed to. High school was smooth sailing and full of enjoyment—until the unavoidable, sad event occurs. The event that locks Yuuta into a contract with Rikka Takanashi and disrupts his desperately ordinary life.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren will begin airing in the Winter 2013/2014 season in early January. The exact date is currently unknown.
