Hanamonogatari Anime Airs May 31st

The much anticipated next animated installment in the Bakemonogatari series, Hanamonogatari, will be airing on May 31st this year. The anime itself will be 5 episodes long, though it did not confirmed if it will continue every week after the 31st. This was all announced at the recent AnimeJapan 2014 event.

In addition to the air date, some additional cast members has also been revealed:

  • Miyuki Sawashiro (Saeko Busujima from Highschool of the Dead) will play Suruga Kanbaru
  • Kana Asumi (Nagisa Momoe from the third Madoka movie) will be voicing Rouka Numachi
  • Michiko Neya (Talho Yuuki from Eureka Seven) voices Tooe Kanbaru

The Monogatari series is a collection of light novels, created by Nisio Isin. The novels started in late 2005 and published under Kodansha’s Box imprint, where there has been a total of 16 volumes to date. The 17th volume will release on April 3rd, and the 18th and final volume releasing later this year. The light novels have received and anime adaptation titled Bakemonogatari, after the first volume, in 2009 from the animation studio Shaft. Since then a total of 11 novels has been animated by the same studio. It has been reported that there has been over a million sales of the Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari anime. In addition, a drama CD, a PlayStation Portable game and many figures and figurines have been made based on the series.

Hanamonogatari, the ninth light novel in the series, will be animated by Shaft once again, and will air on May 31st. More information about the anime will be released in the upcoming weeks.
