Some new images have surfaced from AnimeJapan 2014 for the upcoming Spring anime Captain Earth. One of the images showcases the main characters Daichi Manatsu, Teppei Arashi, Hana Mutou and Akari Yomatsuri with the mech Earth Engine in the background. The other image is of the two lead female characters in their swimsuit outfits, with Mutou being somewhat surprised.
Captain Earth is a new original mecha anime from studio BONES. The series will be directed by Takuya Igarashi, who also directed the mecha series Star Driver and the anime adaptaion of Soul Eater. Another star member of the anime’s production is Yoji Enokido, who will be the scriptwriter of the series. The two have worked together on Ouran High School Host Club and Sailor Moon Super S. The characters are designed by Fumi Minato, and Satoshi Ishino is in charge of animation being the chief animation director. The mechs themselves will be designed by various mecha designers: Shigeto Koyama, Takayuki Yanase, Shinji Aramaki, Takeshi Takakura, Masaki Asai and Takeshi Yoshioka.

One night right before summer vacation, Daichi Manatsu, a second-year in high school, sees a weird round rainbow floating in the sky above Seed Island (Shuushi/Tane Island) and ventures there alone. He has seen this rainbow before. With the memories of his father’s mysterious death and an encounter of a mysterious boy and girl, Daiji arrives on the island while the alarm of a building labeled “Earth Engine” is going off. Someone asks him “Are you a captain?” just as robotic intruders from Uranus called “Kiltgang” arrive. The battle around the shining stars is about to begin.
