The official website of Gundam Build Fighters has revealed the air date the newly announced anime project. The new series will be airing this Fall/Autumn. The website also released a teaser image for the upcoming series.
Gundam Build Fighters is an original anime series in Sunrise’s long running Gundam franchise. The series, also produced by Sunrise, aired in October last year for a total of 25 episodes. It focused more on the gunpla (model) building aspect of the franchise, rather than giant mechs. The anime was directed by Kenji Nagasaki (No. 6), with Yousuke Kuroda (Hellsing Ultimate, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) handling the series composition. The series featured character designs from Kenichi Ohnuki (Major) and Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!), with Masafumi Mima (Guilty Crown) being the sound designer. The series also received three manga adaptations published by Kadokawa Shoten’s Gundam Ace, Hobby Japan and ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Hobby Magazine late last year.
Here is a synopsis of the series from MAL:
The story is set in the near future when GunPla Battles, competitions that pit Gundam plastic models against each other, have become popular worldwide in the “Second GunPla Boom.” Sei Iori, a first-year middle-school student and the only son of a model shop owner, is talented at building GunPla, but inexperienced in the GunPla Battles. He encounters a mysterious boy named Reiji, who happens to be an accomplished Gundam Fighter. Together, they strive for the GunPla Battle world championships.
The new Gundam Build Fighters anime will be airing the Fall/Autumn 2014 anime season, presumably during October. Information regarding the new series, such as whether it will be a sequel/second season of the first anime, has not been released.
