Capcom has previously teased that a new anime based on Sengoku Basara was in production earlier in the year. And recently, TV network NTV has revealed information about the series on its official website. Titled Sengoku Basara Judge End, it will be the third anime series based on Capcom’s hack and slash series of games, more specifically an adaptation of Sengoku Basara 3. The anime has been scheduled to air in Summer this year.
The website also reveals the first visual of the anime.
Sengoku Basara Judge End will be adapting the third main game in the series, which features the Battle of Sekigahara that historically took place on October 21st, 1600. The anime will be produced by Telecom Animation Film (Z/X: Ignition, Futakoi) where this will be their first produced series in the franchise. The anime were previously adapted by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Guilty Crown). The series will be directed by Makoto Yamamoto, who also directed the video games.
NTV have also revealed the cast of the anime, which are the cast who voiced the characters from the game:
- Kazuya Nakai (Zoro from One Piece) will return to voice Masamune Date
- Souichirou Hoshi (Tomoki Sakurai from Sora no Otoshimono) as Nobushige Sanada
- Tooru Ookawa (Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist) will voice Ieyasu Tokugawa
- Tomokazu Seki (Gilgamesh from Fate/Zero) voicing Mitsunari Ishida
Sengoku Basara is a video game series developed and published by Capcom. The first game in the series was released in July 2005 on the PlayStation, where it was released internationally later that year as Devil Kings. To date there are 4 main instalments in the series, which are based on the Sengoku era of Japan. In addition to the games there have been two main anime adaptations, an anime film and specials based on the games. The first anime aired in 2009 and the second series, a sequel season, aired in mid 2010. The animated film, Sengoku Basara Movie: The Last Party, released in 2011. Both seasons and film are produced by Production I.G. Other entries in the franchise include: manga adaptations, a live action television show, stage plays and a musical production.
Sengoku Basara Judge End is set to air in Summer this year. It will be most likely airing in July. More information will be released as we near its scheduled air date.
