Yukito Ayatsuji Could be Writing Another 2

Update: Yukito Ayatsuji has confirmed that the tentatively titled novel Another 2, will follow the 2001 edition. He had a meeting with his editors and it will be published in a monthly magazine.

Yukito Ayatsuji, the creator of the manga and novel Another, has stated that he will be starting a new series by the end of the year that he tentatively calls Another2. Ayatsuji, whose real name is Naoyuki Uchida, has two different versions of the series in mind, 2001 and 2009 editions, and is asking his followers for their thoughts.

Naoyuki Uchida, better known by his pseudonym Yukito Ayatsuji, is a Japanese writer. He is one of the founders of Honkaku Mystery Writers Club of Japan and has written many mystery and horror novels during his career. One such work was the novel Another, which began serialisation in Kadokawa Shoten’s Yasai Jidai magazine in 2006. The series ended its run in 2009 where it was compiled into a singular novel. A manga adaptation from Ayatsuji himself and Hiro Kiyohara started in 2010 and ended in 2012. It ran in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine for a total of 5 volumes. A anime adaptation was produced in 2012 from studio P.A. Works (Angel Beats!Nagi no Asukara) and directed by Tsutomu Mizushima (Blood-C, xxxHOLiC). Additionally, a live action film was created in 2012 and a spin-off novel from Ayatsuji last year.

When Kouichi Sakakibara transfers to his new school, he can sense something frightening in the atmosphere of his new class, a secret none of them will talk about. At the center is the beautiful girl Mei Misaki. Kouichi is immediately drawn to her mysterious aura, but then he begins to realize that no one else in the class is aware of her presence.

Yukito Ayatsuji’s upcoming novel is tentatively titled Another 2. Ayatsuji has not raised any further information about the series, including whether or not it is a possible sequel to the 2009 series. Additionally, Ayatsuji has two variations of the novel in mind. We will update you as more information is released.
