Isuca – TV and Blu-ray Comparisons [NSFW]

Here we are for the first comparison of the TV and Blu-ray releases of this season and it is of Isuca, a relatively unknown series amongst the heavyweights this season but not a bad show by all rights. The series itself is an ecchi show and by that extension, there was a touch of nudity and productive imagery in the anime. Of course that is a big no no on Japanese TV and thus was censored. But alas, the first Blu-ray release of the anime is out and now it is all uncensored and we can compare the two. Generally, the Blu-rays are better than the TV version, since studios have can reproduce scenes of the anime that may have been rushed to make schedules and deadlines. It is also the studio’s biggest avenue for profit. We have done a series of these TV and Blu-ray comparisons before so make sure to check them out here.

Volume 1 of Isuca contains episodes 1 and 2 of the anime. For now the comparisons will stick to the the censored sexual content of the anime, so beware as it is very:

The images all came from the first Blu-ray volume of Isuca, which released on the 27th this month. The first volume comes with the first episodes of the anime and an uncredited version of the anime’s OP. The limited edition release also contains:

  • The OST of the anime
  • A special manga chapter drawn by series creator Osamu Takahashi
  • A three way case illustrated by Takahashi
  • A special visual cover (below) of the anime

Isuca is a ecchi action manga written and illustrated by Osamu Takahashi. The series began serialization in 2009 in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine. To date there has been a total of 6 compiled volumes released, the latest releasing on December 26 last year. An anime adaptation of the series was announced last June and aired in the Winter 2014/2015 anime season, concluding on March 28 for a total of 10 episodes. It was directed by Akira Iwanaga (Tegami Bachi, Kingdom) and produced by studio Arms (Elfen Lied, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha).

Here is a synopsis of the series from MAL:

However, the person who hired him was Sakuya, a girl who is the 37th head of the Shimazu family, and her job is to exorcise and eliminate unwanted creatures. Shinichirou accidentally releases one of the creatures that Sakuya captures and they cooperate to catch it. A story of comedic creature hunting begins!
