Musaigen no Phantom World Episode Count & New Visual Revealed

The official website of the upcoming anime adaptation of Souichirou Shinno and Shirabi’s Musaigen no Phantom World (Myriad Colors Phantom World) novel has revealed that the series will be released as a total of 7 Blu-ray and DVD volumes, containing a total of 13 TV episodes with a bonus episode. The site has also revealed a brand new visual.


The anime’s website has revealed that there will be a total of 7 Blu-ray and DVD volumes, each containing 2 episodes. The anime will run for a total of 13 episodes, where it is expected that the 7th and final volume will contain a bonus episode.

  • Vol. 1 – April 6
  • Vol. 2 – May 11
  • Vol. 3 –  June 1
  • Vol. 4 – July 6
  • Vol. 5 –  August 3
  • Vol. 6 – September 7
  • Vol. 7 – October 5

The bonuses for ordering the first run of Musaigen no Phantom World’s first Blu-ray and DVD volume have been revealed. In addition to episodes 1 & 2, fans will receive:

  • A full colour 16 page booklet
  • A special illustration drawn by Character Designer Kazumi Ikeda
  • Specially designed case/digipak
  • Footage from Unlimited no Phantom World
  • All promotional videos and commercials
  • Uncredited Openings and Endings

The first episode of the Musaigen no Phantom World anime will debut on Tokyo MX on the midnight of Wednesday, January 6/Thursday January 7, for 30 minutes ending on the 7th at 12:30am JST. The anime will also air on TV Aichi on the 7th at 2:05am JST, as well as on Asahi BC at 2:14am JST the same day.

The main cast of the Musaigen no Phantom World anime includes:

  • Hiro Shimono (Keima Katsuragi in The World God Only Knows) leading the cast to voice Ichijo Haruhiko



  • Sumire Uesaka (Sanae Dekomori in Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!) voicing main character Mai Kawakami



  • Saori Hayami (Miyuki Shiba in Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) will voice Reina Izumi



  • Maaya Uchida (Rikka Takanashi from Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!) is voicing Koito Minase



  • Azusa Tadokoro (Fino Bloodstone in Yuushibu) as Ruru



  • Misaki Kuno (Kate Hoshimiya from Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda) joins to voice Kurumi Kumamakura



  • Kikuko Inoue (Sanae Furukawa in Clannad) as Arisu Himeno



  • Shosuke Morohashi, whose voice cast has not been revealed yet

The Opening theme song of the anime will be Naked Dive, performed by the duo SCREEN mode. The Ending theme will be the song Junshin Always, sung by Azusa Tadokoro.

Musaigen no Phantom World (Myriad Colors Phantom World) is a supernatural and fantasy novel written by Souichirou Shinno with illustrations from Shirabi. The novel was published in December 2013 under Kyoto Animation’s imprint where it earned the award of Honourable Mention at the 2013 Kyoto Animation Awards.

Here is the series synopsis:

The story takes place in the near future, in a world born of human imagination. What humans would call ghosts or monsters appear, and they come to be called “phantoms.” The main character, Haruhiko Ichijou, is a first year at Hosea Academy along with his upperclassman Mai Kawakami, who fights phantoms with the ability “Spirit of Five Elements,” Reina Izumi, who has the ability “Phantom Eater,” and Koito Minase, who fights phantoms in solitude. They experience the ups and downs of high school life before a certain incident leads them to the truth of this world.


The Musaigen no Phantom World anime will start its broadcast on the midnight of January 6/7 on Tokyo MX, during the Winter 2015/2016 anime season. Further information about the series will be reveald at a later date.
