Fairy Tail x Rave Master OVA

Hiro Mashima, the creator of the popular manga Fairy Tail has just announced via Twitter that there will be a collaborative anime special between the Fairy Tail anime and Rave Master anime. The new collaborative project will be an OVA which will be bundled with the volume 39 of the Fairy Tail manga as a special DVD edition. Mashima has not commented on who will appear in the OVA but we can speculate that the main characters will be facing each other before becoming friends and taking on a greater evil. The new OVA crossover of Fairy Tail and Rave Master could very well be an animated adaptation of the one shot manga chapter of the same name from 2011.

Rave Master, known as RAVE in Japan is a manga drawn and created by Mashima which ran from 1999 till 2005 for a total of 35 volumes. The manga received an anime adaptation in 2001 and was produced by Studio Deen. The manga was quite popular in Japan but the anime itself was received badly. Here is a synopsis from MAL:

The Continent of Song is in chaos. The sinister secret society known as Demon Card is using the power of Dark Bring to destroy everything in their path. The only things capable of stopping Dark Bring are the Rave stones. Unfortunately, the Rave Stones were scattered around the globe in an explosion 50 years ago, so now they must be collected by the Rave Master in order to stop Dark Bring once and for all. This new task has been given to Haru Glory; a sixteen-year-old boy from Garage Island. The World’s fate now rests on the new, young Rave Master.

Fairy Tail is Hiro Mashima’s latest manga and one of his most popular. Starting from 2006, the Fairy Tail manga enjoyed massive success and is dawning on its 37th volume soon. The manga was picked up for an anime adaptation in 2009 by A-1 Pictures where it supposedly ending in March this year. Here is a synopsis from MAL:

Set in an imaginary world, the Earth Land, there exists a Mage Guild called “Fairy Tail”. Fairy Tail is stationed in the town Magnolia, residing in the Kingdom of Fiore, and is currently governed by Makarov, Guild’s master.

Lucy Heartfilia, a 17-year old girl, wishes to become a full-fledged mage and join one of the most prestigious Mage Guilds in the world, Fairy Tail.

One day, out of pure coincidence, she meets Dragneel Natsu, a boy who is transportation-sick, but very cheerful in nature. However, the thing she does not know is that Natsu is the closest connection to Fairy Tail, as he is a Mage in Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail x Rave Master will be available once the 39th volume of the manga is released, which is expected to be later this year.
