The official website of ufotable’s upcoming TV anime adaptation of Nitro+ and DMM Games’ Touken Ranbu browser game has launched. The anime, titled Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, is being slated to broadcast this July during Summer 2017. In addition, a brand new visual and promotional video.
The leading members of the anime’s production staff were also revealed:
- Director: Toshiyuki Shirai (Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works Animation Director)
- Music Composer: Hideyuki Fukasawa (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, Vividred Operation)
- Animation Studio: ufotable (Fate/Zero, Kara no Kyoukai)

Touken Ranbu is a browser card game developed by Nitro+ and published by DMM Games. The title first released in Japan on January 14th 2015. The game features features humanised swords from Japanese history as Bishonen, beautiful young men. In consequence, the game is very popular with female gamers – with over 2 million registered users. A mobile app of the game was released in Japan in March 2016, which had over 1 million downloads within its first month. The series first received a 12 episode TV anime series in Fall/Autumn 2016 as Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. The anime was directed by Takashi Naoya (Watashitachi, Luck Logic-bu!) and produced by Doga Kobo (Himouto! Umaru-chan, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun).

The year is 2205. The “historical revisionists” have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects, and has the ability to bring famous historical swords to life as male warriors . Strongest among these are the Touken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives.
An anime adaptation of Touken Ranbu by ufotable is in production for July 2017, as Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu. Further details about the anime will be revealed at a later date.
