Online retailer Amazon Japan have updated their listings for the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Makoto Shinkai’s record breaking Kimi no Na wa. (your name.) anime film, revealing that the Japanese release will come with English subtitles. The Blu-ray and DVD are set to release in Japan on July 26, with the BD being region free.
Amazon Japan will be releasing 8 different editions of Kimi no Na wa, 4 of which will be limited to Amazon Japan. All editions of the film will come with Japanese audio with Japanese subtitles, English subtitles and Chinese subtitles. There is also the option to listen to RADWIMPs’ Zen Zen Zense in either Japanese or English. All Blu-ray editions of the movie will also be region free.
- The first is a collector’s edition that will contain the film on 4K HD Blu-ray and HD Blu-ray, as well as 3 bonus discs (making of, audio/video bonuses and story explanations by Shinkai). The edition will also come with a 100 page booklet, stickers, a special digipak, and a part of the script. It will also come with a special A4 sized frame, a pack of postcards, and a bookmark. The Amazon limited 4K UHD Collector’s edition will retail for ¥14,040 (~ US$123.32).
- Next is the special edition that will include the film on Blu-ray, as well as 2 bonus disks. It will also come with the 100 page booklet, stickers, a normal digipak, postcards, A4 sized frame and a bookmark. The Amazon limited Blu-ray special edition will retail for ¥9,504 (~ US$ 83.48).
- There will be an Amazon edition Blu-ray release of the film containing the movie, stickers, postcards, bonus disk and a bookmark, retailing for ¥5,184(~ US$45.50).
- And, the Amazon edition DVD release of Kimi no Na wa., also with stickers, postcards, bonus disk and a bookmark, retailing for ¥4,212 (~ US$37.00).
The other 4 editions are standard across retailers, including online retailer CD Japan who also offer the film with English subtitles.
- The collector’s edition with film on 4K HD Blu-ray and HD Blu-ray and 3 bonus discs (making of, audio/video bonuses and story explanations by Shinkai). The edition will also come with a 100 page booklet, stickers, and a special digipak. The collector’s edition will retail for ¥12,000 (~ US$ 107.60) without tax. Amazon Japan. CD Japan.

- A standard Blu-ray release of the film containing the movie and stickers, retailing for ¥4,800 (~ US$43.00) without tax. Amazon Japan. CD Japan.
- And a standard DVD release of Kimi no Na wa., also with stickers, retailing for ¥3,800 (~ US$34.10) without tax. Amazon Japan. CD Japan.
Kimi no Na wa. has broken numerous records where it has now been crowned the highest grossing anime film of all time. It has currently grossed over ¥38.9 Billion (~ US$353 Million) at the international box office, overtaking Spirited Away which ended its international run at ¥32.96 Billion (~ US$289 Million).
The large bulk of the gross was domestically in Japan where, since the film’s debut on August 26, it has earned over ¥22.4 Billion (~ US$192.5 Million). In Japan, it is the 4th highest grossing film of all time.
Distributor Funimation has revealed that the film has earned over $1.7 Million (~ ¥188 Million) at the North American box office across 303 screens in its opening weekend. By its second weekend, the film has earned over $3.4 Million (~ ¥374 Million), and currently over $4.7 Million (~ ¥535 Million) after five weeks.

- Mone Kamishiraishi (Kanade Ooe from Chihayafuru Live Action Films) is voicing as Mitsuha Miyamizu
- Masami Nagasawa (Umi Matsuzaki in From Up on Poppy Hill) voices Miki Okudera
- Etsuko Ichihara (Hilda from Taiyou no Ouji: Horus no Daibouken) as Mitsuha’s Grandmother
- Ryo Narita (First Major Anime Role) voicing the role of Katsuhiko Teshigawara
- Aoi Yuuki (Madoka Kaname in Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) voicing as Sayaka Natori
- Nobunaga Shimazaki (Haruka Nanase in Free!) as Tsukasa Fujii
- Kaito Ishikawa (Tsumugu Kihara from Nagi no Asukara) is voicing Shinta Takagi
- Kanon Tani (Debut Role) stars as Yotsuha Miyamizu

Makoto Shinkai is a well known anime director who got his start in the industry in 1997 directing the short film Other Worlds. His first major breakthrough in the industry was 2002’s Voices of a Distant Star, which won various awards including the Animation Kobe award and the Seiun Award. Since his debut 20 years ago, his films have received acclaim and recognition for the films’ plot, use of mature themes and breathtaking visuals. One of his more recent hits is 2007’s 5 Centimeters Per Second, which won the award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2007 Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Shinkai’s most recent feature film is 2013’s The Garden of Words.
Kimi no Na wa. synopsis:
The story is set one month after a comet has fallen for the first time in a thousand years in Japan. Mitsuha is a female high school student who lives in a rural town nestled deep in the mountains. Her father is the mayor and isn’t at home much, and she lives with her elementary school-aged little sister and her grandmother. Mitsuha has an honest personality, but she doesn’t like the customs of her family’s Shinto shrine, nor does she like her father participating in an election campaign. She laments that she lives in a confined rural town, and yearns for the wonderful lifestyle of living in Tokyo.
Taki is a male high school student who lives in central Tokyo. He spends time with his friends, works part-time at an Italian restaurant, and is interested in architecture and fine arts. One day, Mitsuha has a dream where she is a young man. Taki also has a dream where he is a female high school student in a town in the mountains that he has never been to. What is the secret to their dreams of personal experience?
Kimi no Na wa. finally has a release date for the Blu-ray and DVD; coming to Japan on July 26 and will contain English and Chinese subtitles. Further details about the home media release, and international releases, will be revealed at a later date.
